Here is also a nice free bee. Go to www.northtoalaska.com ( North to Alaska) and sign up for the "free" guide. It comes with a large (21" x 30") fold out full color map showing an over-view of the different routes thru BC., Yukon and Alaska.

Here is another good research site called Sue's Yukon Sights lots of pictures with descriptions.
Ordered the guide, thanks. My wife announced that we were going THIS year, so the planning starts now. We will definately go independent so we can set our own schedule and have time to visit cousins there. I drove it one way in 86 (took the ferry north bound) with a class C with no problems except for one broken side window.

It is a long trip but we covered about the same number of miles on our Midwest trip this last fall.

Still deciding whether to drag the car behind or not.

Once in Alaska, stop at the Fairbanks Visitor Center ( Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitor Center ) Large parking lot. The place is only about 5 years old...The people there just so helpful. Tons & tons of brochures and maps.

If your in a hurry about 15 miles east of Fairbanks is North Pole. There at the Santa Clause House gift shop, 200 feet east of the store is the North Pole Visitor Center. It will have only the basic travel info. The one in Fairbanks has 10 times the info and in my opinion well worth the stop.
