We are headed for Alaska in June. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions?

The Milepost that has been suggested is the best advice you'll get. All other advice will follow but don't leave hone without it.
We went in June of 04 and stayed for nine weeks. By far the best RV trip we've done. The weather was perfect , the daylight was constant and we never saw what some call the State bird ( mosquito ).

Lived there for a few decades - you'll enjoy it! Definitely get the Milepost - details on the trip from start to finish.

There's so much to see/do, that giving suggestions is difficult. Let us know what interests you. You're closer than most to start the trip, so you no doubt are aware of all the fun stuff along the way through BC up to the border.

Thank you.
Is there any point in towing our jeep. If we seldom use it I would leave it at home. Comments?

We towed our car as always and used it extensively.
You'll need to protect the front end from damage.

Take your Jeep.
Imagine you break down 85 miles from nowhere and no cell phone service.
Oh by the way...If you don't show any cell phone service go ahead and dial 911 anyways.
Every carrier is required to handle 911 calls from anybody and there lots of private carriers out in the boonies.

By all means, take the jeep with you....you'll definitely need and use it. Also, keep in mind that the Milepost is supported by advertisements in addition to the cost of the book; hence, they do recommend establishments that advertise in their book.
In my opinion, the better book is one by Mike & Terri Church: http://http://www.amazon.com/Travele...alaska+camping
I found it to be much more correct and informative than the Milepost.

Our 2011 trip to Alaska is(so far) the pinnacle of our RVing...we took the Jeep - as suggested, don't leave home without it. There are many side trips you will want to take and some/most are not for RVs. Go slow and have fun...the trip is quite the adventure.

How much time do you recommend to do a trip like this right?

My folks did 6 weeks on their 1st trip. 3 months on the second trip cuz there was too much missed the 1st time. I figure, to do what they did I will do more than 4 months.

All I will say is TAKE YOUR TIME and ENJOY THE RIDE. Take as much time as you possibly can, enjoy every minute of the time you have. I have been there and North Canada on three occasions and wish I could afford the money it takes to go to do it in my camper. It is SPECTACULAR.

I would also recommend the Church's book along with the Milepost. It has lat/long for campgrounds since many do not have traditional addresses. Don't be surprised if your GPS acts crazy occasionally. Ours even once said "go that away." If you can, try some dry camping because they are the best campgrounds. Commercial campgrounds are expensive and are literally slide to slide with your neighbor. We did stay in a couple of places with caravans but never had a problem getting a site in the campgrounds we chose. We only made a couple of reservations during the entire trip. Most of all, take your time and enjoy. We considered our trip to Alaska last summer as a once in a life time trip. We are already planning our return trip in 2017.
