We're planning our return trip to Alaska next summer. We spent 2+ months in 2004 and can't wait any longer before going back. This time though, we're looking forward to some side trips to the Northwest Territories and possibly other destinations.

We were wondering if anyone else had similar plans or might even be interesting in buddying for some of the trip?

We're hoping to make our 3rd trip to Alaska this summer if fuel prices remain relatively low and don't go back up to the $4-$5 it was this past summer. We're also considering taking the trip up to Yellowknife before heading to Alaska.

If we go, we'll probably cross over into Canada sometime the 1st half of May and don't plan on returning until sometime in September.

I'm sure you already know about all of these, but for those that don't, these are "must haves" IMO:

The Milepost (the new issue is published in March of each year)
Traveler's Guide to Alaskan Camping by Mike & Terri Church
The Great Alaskan Tour Saver (many two-for-one tours)

My DW and I will be leaving in early June from near NYC heading north into Canada. Planning on traveling across Canada and up to Alaska. Doing Haul Road and returning down through Vancouver, Seattle, Portland and then heading east.

Not retired so I must return in 3-4 months.

We're planning on leaving in early May of 09, with a week or so stop at Rapid City, SD to visit the grand kids. Then onto the Alaska Highway via Banff. It's no doubt better to get to the north country later in the season, but the sooner we go, hopefully the gas will be a little less expensive. Last year, we took off from Tennessee in July, the gas peaked well over $4.00 gal and we never made it to Canada, except Sault Ste Marie. Very discouaging and we're determined to get up there next summer.

I'm looking at returning to Alaska this summer as well. Planning to go up the Cassiar (sp) highway this time. There are some LoW members that are talking about getting a caravan together to go. I've never been on a caravan . . . but it might be a nice way to travel . . . lots of boondocking opportunities on the way up if you are with others.
