I have often asked about that question since our Trek has a heated wetbay, heated freshwater, etc. The best answer I have found is in the form of another question. jones4110 on RV.NET posted on 12/17/06 a description of winterworthy vs winterized. In that article, it suggests that winterworthy for activities such as skiing require a much more agressive approach than simply being able to use the rig in winter when the outside temps get below freezing. I will have to check but I think Safari lists below 0 degrees F as the cutoff for the Trek. I am reasonably sure they do not expect it do function 24/7 around 0-5 degrees. If you search on winter you can probably find many different approaches to using our rigs during the winter.

Banner used to have a special order option on their travel trailers for winter use. They were said to be rated for sub-zero temps and heavy snows. They had reinforced roofs, double thick side walls and were quite a bit heavier than the standard models.

We had a friend come down from Minnisotta and for a few years he parked his at my dads old house.

That was 30 years ago and things change but....

I guess I'm not sure exactly what you mean by 'made for winter' If you mean can you live in one, there are units made that can certainly support you during cold weather .... With things like heated tanks, heated storage areas, covered underside on fifth wheels, most manufacturers make units designed for cold weather .....

I agree with C Driver. How cold is cold?

Many mid-level RVs have heated utility bays and offer dual pane windows as an option. These two features alone should get you comfortably into the mid-20's. We have even camped successfully for a few nights at those temperatures in an entry level travel trailer that didn't have those features.

Some manufacturers also have optional cold weather packages which include extra insulation. Arctic Fox is one make that comes to mind as being equipped for cold weather.

Down here on the Texas Gulf Coast, we don't see the temperature extremes we did during our 22 years in Ohio, but our current RV has been in the low 20's and was quite comfortable just using ceramic heaters with a shot of the furnace every now and then just to keep the enclosed storage/tank area warm.
