Amazon Prime Going Up

I just read on Fox that Amazon Prime is raising their rate to $119 for all new subscribers as of May 11. So next time we renew I may have to think about it. They are getting as bad as my trash collector who seems to raise their rate every quarter. I've told them, " One more rate increase and I am gone so far it's been two whole quarters no rate increase yet. Boy am I lucky.

You can probably live without Amazon Prime, but what are you going to do without trash collection? I've lived in areas without trash collection, loading it up and hauling it to a dump yourself is pretty inconvienant.

Seems to me that before I bought into the Amazon Prime, that almost everything I looked up seemed to have free shipping if you had Prime. After I bought it, it seemed like almost everything I wanted to order, it didnt apply to that product. Could be just me , but thats what it seemed like. I have had to pay shipping on almost everything Ive bought since I got it.

The greatest benefit to Amazon Prime is the shipping. The quick and or free shipping. If you buy anything from Amazon under $119 pays for itself very quickly. The videos and other media resources are just icing

Hmmm how I read the article, it means NEW subscriber will pay $119 so if you are a current subscriber it still should only be $99

or am I mis reading it???

Fox is the only one saying NEW subscribers.

News article says first increase since 2014, that's 5% a year. Amazon honored a warranty that Hayward pool equipment would not. Reimbursed me $400 that they did not have to. They rarely miss the 2 day delivery and have delivered on Sunday several times. Sometimes Amazon is not always the lowest price, but sometimes neither is Walmart or any other store. For me the 5% back more that offsets the cost of the Prime membership. I will continue as a Prime member.

It's the goal of all businesses to make money for their stockholders. If they didn't, they'd be sued for mismanagement. Amazon recently took a small hit with our President's tweetstorm. His facts were wrong, but it hurt them none the less.

As a log time customer of Amazon pricing and business model and as a Prime Member for some time, I have recently found that pricing is not as competitive as it used to be.

Corner the market, then raise prices.

That is a good business model, but consumers need to check alternative pricing to protect themselves.

YMMV

The increase in the price today for the Amazon stock I hold (increased about $170/share from the open this morning until after the announcement this afternoon) will pay Prime dues for a long time...
