Ammonia Refrigerator Problems?

Donít like your ammonia absorption refrigerator? Just be glad you donít operate the International Space Station.

This weekendís spacewalk is replacing a cooling unit, for a second time, basically an advanced ammonia cooling unit. They carried a ďSpareĒ unit, maybe we should?

When my old 78 year model went out I felt just about as alone and isolated as the guys on the Space Station! Luckily I googled rv refrigerator repair. Found the part number for the replacement could. Couldn't afford the $900+ they cost. Kept watch on eBay, found a new set from a liquidation of a closed rv dealership for $56. Still cools great 6 years layer. I just hope those guys have better, clearer instructions than I did!

I was feeling kinda bad when our 4 door Dometic froze 2 weeks ago and just wouldn't start again. Tried all the fixes suggested but the mobile rv repair guy came Thursday to replace the cooling unit. My DH helped him remove the doors, pull it out and lay it face down to replace the unit. I had to leave, what a mess. The mobile rv guy did a great job and no spacewalk!

International Space Station's Cooling System: How It Works (Infographic) | Space.com

Here is how the cooling system in the ISS works. Nothing like the RV frig. The ammonia is simply a heat transfer fluid. Ammonia is used due to the relatively high latent heat ( about 600 BTU/lbm) when compared to other refrigerant type heat transfer fluids (200 BTU/lbm)
