Amoeba. Can it possibly form in our fresh water tanks?
Based on what I've read, Amoeba is heat loving and prevalent in freshwaters like lakes, rivers and streams. It has also been discovered in swimming pools and hot tubs. I fill my fresh water tank with city or well water. The tank remains partially full during camping season. City water is treated with chemicals in most cities so I'm guessing it's Ok. But how about well water? I don't believe well water is treated with any chemicals. Is it possible for amoeba to form in our fresh water tanks?

Well Water Source?
If private it may/may not be treated.
Grew up with well water and we treated it
If public.........pretty good chance that they MUST treat and submit samples for testing''
Pumping from a stream, lake , pond etc....YOU best treat it AND filter it too

BTW, not a good idea. Drain the tank between camp outs.

The brain-eating amoeba that killed the guy in NC enters through your nose, not by drinking the water.
"This tends to happen when people are in splashy water parks, jet-skiing, or irrigating their sinuses with tap water that hasn’t been disinfected, boiled, or filtered. No other means of exposure seem to cause trouble; inadvertently swallowing N. fowleri is harmless, for instance. But in a nose, things get ugly."

That article says it cannot survive in well-chlorinated water.
I store our MH with a full fresh water tank, I add 1/2tps of Sodium Dichlor per 100G water, it's already municipal water so the addition is extra protection.

Since our RV has a factory water filter that it says removes chlorine, I wonder...

I use 1 tablespoon of sodium dichlor in our 450 gallon hot tub and it immediately pushes the free chlorine level over 5ppm. Our city water is about half that amount at most.
Have you ever dipped a water test strip in your water after adding the dichlor?

It actually should be comforting because the cases come from swimmers inhaling water or neti pot users.
Read about the nasal route for the blood-brain barrier.

As long as you perform maintenance on your water system just like any other system on your coach you will be fine. Drain old water, sanitize the system, and you will be good to go!

Do a google search on rv and flesh eating amoeba and you will get zero results. Thats your answer.

NXR, once your water is chlorinated the ameboa is killed off anyway..

No, but then our water for consumption passes through an Everpure filter.
