Made me wonder why you would repo at night in a bad neighborhood. If it were me, I would repo during the day, with security armed to the teeth.

Especially in Memphis.
I used to work in the finance field in Memphis. You're talking about automobiles here. Times have changed over the years with a hardening of society in big cities. Memphis is essentially a dysfunctional society with a general lack of jobs, extremely low incomes and an overabundance of illegal substances.

More often than not, the finance companies have had enough contact with customers to know a little about their behavior, etc. Often it's safer to have no contact with the customers and pick up vehicles with a special "Eagle Claw" wrecker where you're gone in sixty seconds or less.

Nevertheless, being a repo agent is a dangerous, but needed job. The legal system is so clogged up that replevining collateral is just too slow and expensive. And without repossessions, finance companies would have to charge substantially higher interest rates on the good customers to make up the difference and remain profitable.

I think you would have to find the paper trail for your used RV. From paperwork left in the vehicle, or certainly from interview of the seller.
It won't show up on a title as it likely wasn't also totalled.

Repos generally go to auction. www.repocast.com and www.autobidmaster.com are two places.

You will pay whatever the market bears on the auction site. Not much discount from used as the title should still be clean. You are competing with thousands of others that are also looking for a deal. If the vehicle is compromised, then the pool of shoppers drop as the risk increases lots and the number of people that will take it on drops fast.

Any questions for a former Repo Processor of RVs and trailers?

We had a deputy in Maryland who came out of his house just as the repo men were hooking up his trailer. The pistol in his hand changed their mind about grabbing it. He held them at bay until a patrol car could get there. It’s considered trespassing if you come on private property to snatch property. Bad pay or not. Not sure how it ended. My understanding is that you need a law enforcement escort to retrieve a unit in someone’s driveway. Lucky for them the guy wasn’t trigger happy.
I’m sure they eventually repo’d it but word is the deputy had them face down begging for their lives. Not a job I would want in any capacity. To many crazies out there.

Lots of questions and the OP seems to have gone. Maybe the last repo did not go well?

I don't have a question but I do have a story.
In 2008 My business went under. I had to file Bankruptcy> when I did that I lost all income and had to file Personal BR as well. I got to keep the car and house but everything that was tied to a note had to go.

I had a 33' 5th Wheel that I lost. When the repo guy came I had cleaned everything out long before he came. I took him to the unit, Gave him the keys and ask him to take care of it. I signed all the papers and he and his (Wife) helper said MR Kennedy we really appreciate your cooperation. This has been the easiest repo we have ever done.

I helped the hook up and they towed it out of my back yard as my wife and I both cried as they left our sight. It was the first thing I had ever had repoed in my life and I have never had anything Repossessed Sinse.
