Any unwritten rules for adhesive maps for states visited?

We’ve been full timing for 2.5 years and you will be able to tell by this question, life has become much simpler.
We see lots of the maps of the US with the stickers of states visited. If you switch to a new RV can you claim credit for states visited with the old RV or only what you visit with that specific RV? Can you claim credit for states that you just drive through or do you need to spend a night there?
Not loosing any sleep over this, just one of those things you think about while driving.

It’s really up to you. When we got our new to us coach 5 years ago, started over and only included those we stayed overnight at in the new coach. Friends of ours transferred when they got a new coach.

We filled up ours almost twice including Canada . Only exception on both maps was the Northwest Territory.
We slept in all of them. I put the maps on plexiglas and hung it on the inside door with Velcro visible when door was open. It now hangs on a wall in our S&B.

We don't have the map with the state stickers but when we bought our MH in March we ordered new oval stickers for the national parks we have visited in the past and placed them on the slide wall. They remain clean, don't fade and keep the exterior looking tidy with the slide in going down the road. We still have many more to collect and hopefully will be adding Banff and Jasper next month.
Btw, the Glacier Bay NP sticker does draw comments. Regards, Mike

Your map your rules. Most only add a state if they have actually camped there.

I like the National Park stickers better! That shows a bigger effort than just driving into a state 10 miles to say you've been there.

I think only New York has laws about that, but I have only heard that second hand, so it might not be true...

We are using ours as places we’ve put tires to the ground in not necessarily slept in. We also don’t always have the RV with us. We’ve been to New England and gone to a national park in a different state in the car on the weekend. We still count it. We’ll have visited the 48 contiguous states by the time we get back to Florida next spring.

You get a free Montana sticker when you start up a LLC there.

For us, it's any state we've been in with any RV (we're on our 4th). To earn a sticker ,we had to have done something in that state. (Tourist trap, photo up etc.)

And they'll claim you as a resident and send you a tax bill!

I have such a map. I only claim the state/territory/park/whatever if I've had some kind of event there. Did I visit Acadia national park while in Maine? Okay, check that one off. Did I buy a new motorcycle in Ohio? Okay, check that one off. Did I have 6 tire blow outs in 6 days while driving across Texas? Yep, that's an adventure, check that one off. Did I drive through Arizona on my way to Carlsbad Caverns? Eh, that's not really an event. No checking that state off just yet. I'm sure Arizona has something eventful to offer.

I keep my map until it's completely filled out even if I get a new RV. It's my map filled with memories of what I did. It's not the RV's map.

We have had 3 motorhomes so 3 maps. However, if we stayed in one state with the first RV it still counts on the overall experiences. So, our map reflects the states we have stayed overnight in regardless of which MH it was in. Everyone has their own 'rules'. None are wrong.
