Priceless

Sorry I just had to comment on Moonrovers post which still has me giggling over and over. That was priceless! Nothing better than starting the holiday weekend with a good laugh.

Thanks again

We full time, but a few years ago, we returned to our home town for a stay of a month or two. There was a new RV park, so we stopped by. We were told that they don't allow "transients." One year leases only.

I had to laugh and informed the snooty person at the desk that just 18 months ago cows were pooping where she is now standing.

My wife never got over being called "transients."

Call Me What You Will But ......

As my hubby always says, "Call me what you want, but don't call me late for supper"

Who cares about labels, just think what the majority of the population are missing out on and we're embracing

Huge Property Taxes = NOPE
Increasing Insurance Our Home Area Just gone Up 60%+ over last year due to floods, hail, fire claims last year = NO THANKS.
Maintenance, Lawn Cutting, Snow Removal Etc = NO NO
Stuck With Bad Neighbours = Just start the engine and change the view.

Vagrant, Homeless, call me what you want but don't call me late for supper

Possibly by folks who do not know the reality of owning a MH. May be watching too many movies like Christmas Vacation.

We overnighted in a RV park outside of San Francisco a few years ago where it appeared most of the units would not be able to move under there own power. People were friendly and certainly did not ask us for money.

It probably was coined by those who wish they could afford the freedom to travel the country going where ever and when ever the whim or desire takes you.

When reading the OP's first post about being called a "vagrant" it reminded me of another term I used to hear years ago, "trailer trash".

I've never been called anything negative in my entire RV ownership career because I take reasonably good care of all of my stuff that I own. Plus I think most knowledgeable people realize how much money it takes to not only own my coach but also to take care of it.

However, on my travels around the NA continent I have seen some real trailer trash people that I just can't imagine how the establishment allows them to stay.

Personally I don't care whatever people want to tag me as; all I know is that I've been living my dream for the past 10+ years and my bucket list is still over-flowing with places I have yet to see and visit.

I pity the people who sit at home wishing that they could live & travel in an RV but never take the first step due to fear. Then later you hear about all of their regrets.

No regrets here just living my dreams and thank God everyday for the Blessings to continue.

Vagrant - a person without a settled home or regular work who wanders from place to place and lives by begging.
But that's just one definition, and maybe not an actual legal one, though it is basically what "common law" holds vagrancy to be. Here's another definition with similar wording:
"the term vagrant referred to a person who was idle, refused to work although capable of doing so, and lived on the charity of others."

Another common phrasing is "without visible means of support or domicile".

Many states and municipalities have a legal definition for their locale, used to arrest undesirable people, but the courts have mostly held these to be unconstitutionally vague. I know several Florida vagrancy laws, both state and local, have been overturned by the courts in the last 20 years.

I don't think many Fulltimers have to worry, but there are probably a few who might cross the line into vagrancy. For example, if found parked at a Walmart and panhandling for money, and unable to show the means to rent a campsite somewhere? But still the criteria used would have to be crisp rather than vague or subject to court challenge.

RvRoamers definition appears to apply to 1/3 of the people residing in the USA. :-)

Take a look at volunteering. We get to live in a private RV park with all utilities paid inside a National Wildlife Refuge. I have over 3 acres of grounds around the Visitor Center to maintain, including flower beds, butterfly garden and a whole lot of grass to mow. You could also offer to do yard work in a commercial campground in exchange for free camping.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I have a little bit different take on this exchange than what's been expressed.

I interpret the comment as asking how a full timer gets around the many legal/logistical challenges of not having a permanent "address".

The mail forwarding service takes care of much of it but there are still places which won't finance or insure a full timers rig... regardless of their balance sheet. I guess I can see some legal documentation referring to "vagrants" not being eligible for XYZ. I'm sure there are other examples but (hopefully) the comment was aimed at these types of challenges and not as a snooty slur.

Best of luck

Rick

You're correct, Rick. It wasn't mean-spirited…it was a question about residency as far as I could tell. I was just a little shocked that anyone would use the word "vagrant" in reference to full-timers. And, like most of you have said…I don't care what they may call me. Just don't call me late to happy hour.

Called late for Happy Hour - egregious. Is there no justice?
