Are you a supporter ?

Just responded to another thread which has 161 responses so far, and only had 15 supporters of this site.

This site is such a wealth of knowledge, Iím just curious if any non supporters would be willing to say why they are not a supporter.

Ironically, you actually answered your own question. This site being such a wealth of knowledge is what generates income for the owners. When I clicked on this thread, my ad blocker blocked 24 adds. When I clicked to quote your post, it blocked 11 more. That's 35 ads so far. Put a pin in that fact.

Why are there ads here to block? There's really only one reason to have an ad on a forum. It is used to generate revenue. Whoever is advertising pays to have their ad used here. If they didn't, whoever owned this website wouldn't allow someone else to advertise. Ads generate revenue for the website owners. Put a pin in that fact as well.

Why would an advertiser want to advertise here? What makes this place worth advertising dollars? It attracts many people with a similar interest. Everyone here likes RVing in some manner. People here talk about RVing a lot. Those discussions are what makes advertisers want to advertise here. Put a third pin there.

This is a web forum. It is, at the most basic level, just a collection of our conversations. That collection of conversations are what attract those advertisers. That's pin number 4.

Now just notice that I am an active part of those conversations mentioned in Pin #4. I am drawing advertisers here, which in turn gets the website more ads via Pin #3. Those ads that I'm at least partly responsible for are generating revenue for the owners of this website via Pin #2. I've supported the site 35 times so far for this website via Pin #1. Me posting is me supporting the site. Quite literally, there are no posters that you can possibly point to that aren't supporters of the site. The more we post, the more revenue is generated for the owners.

If I became an official "supporting member", I'd get a cool new graphic displayed under my username, and a lighter wallet. I couldn't possibly care less about the cool new graphic displayed under my username, and I don't like lightening my wallet without getting some benefit in return. I'm a member of another website that I actually have upgraded my membership to. That website, however, does provide a tangible return for my money. Being a premium member there grants me significantly faster processing times and allows submissions with less paperwork. The lower paperwork requirement actually saves me time and effort in the real world. Being a "supporting member" here, just transfers money from my wallet to whoever owns this website. That's not something I'm going to do.

I guess, that's just a long way of saying exactly the same thing Old-Buscuit said. Awe man, now I have to admit that he beat me to it, yet again. That's what, 1,000 times so far? Yer killin me Smalls!

I hope that helps explain things from the perspective of a "non-supporter".

I would think that those who have problems and are searching for solutions would be more than happy to contribute. Like others have posted, I believe I add more solutions. I don't recall that I've ever asked a question. I spent my working life solving problems that others couldn't solve. Now that I've retired, I still use those problem solving skills to try and help others which makes me a net giver. If I were a net taker..... then I'd be contributing.

I didn't at first, but when I added up what I got from this site, it's easily worth it. Kinda like the plate coming around at church. I can afford it, I enjoy it, I learn alot from it, so I give.

I support it because it's cheap and I don't get any ads so I don't have to worry about blocking ads. All of us do our best to support the site by supplying information to posters. Some of us cough up another dollar or so per month to support it financially. No big deal either way.

I don't have AD blocker, or if I do I don't know how to use it.
I don't mind the ad's because they don't try to take over, with video and audio.
Like some do.
Sometimes I see things I want to look into and research.
