I should put in my two cents since sense has been bypassed here!

This thread makes as much sense as it was originally designed to do. That makes sense to me.

You people are still here? I've been out trying to get some legitimate estimates on a pool. Man in this economy you'd think they were trying to sell you gold! 50k and that doesn't include an electric run or the concrete coping. I understand the 16k for the fiberglass pool shell and 2k for freight but 30k+ for digging a hole and setting it in?

Back in wifi! Sitting at Cannon Beach Oregon right now.
4Knights, that's why I went above ground. My butt didn't know the difference. Same water as in ground. Would put $30 G's in your pocket!

Years ago, I heard they can "POP" out of the ground in certain types of soil. Have they fixed that?

Concrete, fiberglass or vinyl all have their issues, the popping thing was more of a myth than reality. They can float if not properly installed (left completely empty and water fills up underneath in the really wet soils. The concrete pools sink in those situations. Main thing is to install it the right way first time. No sand back fill as it will wash away, crushed gravel solves the drainage and sinking issues. A good concrete coping job that's bonded for electrical safety and you never have to drain and acid wash like concrete plus no liner replacements.
I want a salt water pool in the ground so the dogs can swim with or without us, no worries about chemicals, or breaking the sides due to kids pushing off.
I have really considered the DIY option of buying and putting in myself but DW says no way. (I agree, but don't tell her) more work and technical skill than I want to deal with.
Maybe I could hold a Bacon lottery- $100 entry and the winner gets a year subscription to the Bacon of the month club (anyone know 4000 folks wanting in?)

Thanks for the clarification.
I think you(DW) know the answer already, and the lottery subscription won't float in it either.

Damn, I think I threw up a little in my mouth... there's nothing nastier than Diet Coke, well aside from TAB or Diet Rite...

Or any *-Diet drink. Your Light beers don't have that funky "Diet" taste.
