Cool! You should sleep well tonight.

On nights I can't sleep, I do have things I could be doing. Like learning my CNC mill, learning my 1/4 the price of Rosetta-Stone, Spanish, but I don't feel like starting those things. I need to be active. Like making a new tool or machining something else. Being creative and have something to show for it. If I have something to do, I can go over 24-36 hours without sleep. I've pulled many over-nighters once I got going, at least until I hit a stopping point.

A rocket scientist thought this up:

Limit the intake of fluids several hours before bedtime. Duh!

Does the History Channel and the Discovery Channel have a think tank where they think up the next fake reality show?

Did you say that vicodin keeps you awake? I've heard that if medicine like that has a reverse affect on you its due to a chemical imbalance, I know that rings true for my mom.

I take Vicoden for my back and Baclofen(muscle relaxer)for my calf for sciatica. Sometime it makes my eyes slam shut and I still can't sleep, but it's a mellow can't sleep.

I have a high tolerance for most meds. A headache just laughs at two aspirins. I have to take four. OTC sleep meds? Can't take them as antihistamines aggravate my RLS(restless leg syndrome).

I must add that I don't take the drugs every day. I just went a day short of a week since I last took any. It says "as needed" and that's how I take them. If I over exert myself or sleep wrong, I take them. Having a high tolerance also means it takes longer for them to kick in. Usually 1 1/2-2 hrs.
