"repaint the engine, clean, polish, and clear all the shiny parts, and put her back together."

I had a CX500. The engine was aluminum with some kind of clearcoat on it. After a few years it became cruddy looking. I could never get it looking clean. What did you put on it that would withstand the heat?. I don't have it any more some one took it off of my hands. Sure had fun on that bike...
