Speaking of bacon. Denise tried something new to us yesterday when she was making our dinner. She cooked the bacon in the oven on some kind of cooking paper (the cooks on list will know what I don't re the name) in the oven and I really liked the result. Really special texture, not at all greasy and the wow meter hit about 110

My slide topper will unfurl with the arms locked. That is a problem with these things, the wind catches them and the spring will unwind and the topper flairs out. I had to wrap a bungee around mine. I looks like crap but it kept it in place. The main awnings have the same problem and they will unfurl even when the arms are tied down. I seen a fix on here somewhere, where you put a large hose clamp around each end of the tube and attach an eye. Then just hook a cable with an s hook on each end to the clamp and the other end to the bottom of the arm. It worked for me and cost less than $10. I just have to come up with something for the slide topper that is easy on and off, because you have to undo it before you put the slide out.

The slide toppers should have a built on anti-furl thingie. Both mine do.
For the main awning, there are several way to prevent it from unrolling. I took a long 5/16" rod, put a 45° bend near the end, and a 90° bend 2" from the end. Kinda like an upside down "L" with a kink near the end. It inserts into the fabric hole in the end of the awning roller and has a Velcro strap that holds the rod to the upright. It can't rotate. There are several commercial versions. Search the site for awning lock, or better yet, go here. Mine is there, along with others. A strap around the upright does not keep it from un-rolling

Suggestions for improvement welcome. Prize money to be shared equally among contributors. Especially interested in bacon flavored dipping sauce ideas.
Since its a Texas contest (lived in Copperas Cove of 5 years) you are forgetting that you need to stuff a big Jim's pepper or jalapeņo with some cheese and the first piece of bacon then wrap the rest of the Bacon around the whole thing. Deep fry, win the contest, send me my share,
Ron

You are absolutely, dead on with the Big Jim (may go with Sandia) and stuff it with a bacon wrapped shrimp. Every year it's a bushel or two of these. Click image for larger version
