Here where I live you can only call on sunny days. It is too hard to see the smoke on the cloudy days. Lol!

Use a petroleum base product for clear communications. I produces a black smoke that cuts through the clouds.

Green leafy limbs also work. Although, many times the fire dept. will show up!

I thought the Dual Survivor guys used green leafy produce to produce white signal smoke to get the attention of their reality, would be, made up, paid, fake rescuers. Funny that they walk off the retrieval location, leaving all that expensive camera equipment running.
