Ok, new tactic. Seems every time I start telling people about our travels they get bored and leave. So listen up thread. Yesterday, a nice sunny, cool, partly cloudy day up in the Grand Canyon, myself and DW along with a lot of other people, largest day of attendance this year, all drove the relative straight road north to the park, knowing that a grand time was going to happen, so grand that some were willing to risk their lives to get there first cause they passed across yellow lines and was going way, way fast and had an Elk stepped out they would have hit it, and yes we say lots of Elk, sent pic home of Elk to DIL she replied yumm, the we parked and went to rest room where there was plenty of water on the floor, I'm assuming to wash the bottom of your shoes with so you don't track something into the canyon which was big and deep and I was impressed that they had managed to keep all the old washing machines, refrigerators and cars and tires out of sight, don't know where they dump that stuff around here back home we would have that big ditch filled in in no time, got to run have a great day bye thread!

Hello Thread Killers,

Hi Tim, We have been to the Canyon and it sure is rand! Been both South an North rims and love the quiet less traveled North Rim best. Glad you had a grand time which should be expected there. Want to check or Zion next trip. Always in a hurry to get back to w--k so when retired we can "take our time" and visit as long as we wish.

Life on Lengthy Thread!
List of Lovely Times!

LOLT Live on Little Thread! Hey Navy, I get you about the needing to be retired so we can determine our own fun but reality is w--k a bit yet and then the fun begins.

Yeah... the Grand Canyon is just that. We were there late September 2012 and it was still fairly crowded. Next time I go I'm taking some kudzu seeds to help stop the erosion. I thought the water on the restroom floor was part of the evaporative cooling system.
Even though it was crowded it was worth the trip. North rim was my favorite (and less crowded too.)

Walked to the bottom from the south side 2-1-14. 7.2 mile down--stayed the night at the ranch at the bottom--walked back out the next day 9.7 mile. Was 65 year old at the time. Was one of the neatest things I've done in my life. I for sure am not a hiker-- so think about a walk to the bottom. Awesome views especially near the river at the bottom

Save some for the Badlands NP. Man that place is in serious need of some "greenin' up".

Tim, Only time I was there a park attendant was telling everyone who would listen about the length, width and depth of the place and that there was no place like it anywhere else. he kept extolling the virtues of the place until an old Texan walked up to him and said; "The only reason Texas don't got a place like this is we'll got contractors that can fix little problems like this. I think it was the same guy what told the attendant in Niagara Falls that Texas had plumbers what could fix that there silly leak. YMMV. DDTD

You're right! A little kudzu could do that place a world of good. If they don't do something about that erosion they may have to change the name to 'Not As Bad As It Used To Be NP'.
This pic was taken in 2013... could all be gone by now...
