Are you talking about the 3 Marine reservists collecting toys outside a business that was robbed, and the robber knocked one of the Marines down while running away? When the police arrived, the robber had 2 broken arms, a broken leg, some broken ribs, numerous contusions, and was barely breathing. The witness's stated the robber fell after knocking the Marine down.

If it's about Marines tangling with a robber, I'm guessing he was trying to post this- it's been making the rounds.
I got it from my Mother-in-Law last week and checked it out...

It's a fake.

The incident it's based on happened on "Black Friday", Nov. 29th 2010.
The only person that got hurt in that incident was a Marine.
The last paragraph of the "clipping" was made up by some comedian who first circulated it on the web in "press release" form.

Here's the full text of the original A.P. story:

AUGUSTA, Ga. (CBS/AP) A U.S. Marine reservist collecting toys for children was stabbed when he helped stop a suspected shoplifter outside an eastern Georgia Best Buy.
The store's sales manager, Orvin Smith, told The Augusta Chronicle that a man was seen on surveillance cameras Friday putting a laptop under his jacket at the Augusta store.
When confronted, the man became irate, knocked down an employee, pulled a knife and ran toward the door. Outside were four Marines collecting toys for the service branch's "Toys For Tots" program.
Smith said the Marines stopped the man, but he stabbed one of them, Cpl. Phillip Duggan, in the back. The cut did not appear to be severe.
The suspect, whose name was not released, was held until police arrived. The Richmond County sheriff's office said it is investigating.

Here's a link to Snopes' fact checker of this one snopes.com: Stabbed Marine

And another link to a Marine-dedicated website containing the original news story.
One Marine's View: A Marine collecting Toys for Tots donations at Augusta's Best Buy was stabbed in the back Friday while helping to subdue a shoplifting suspect.

I like the made-up ending better, but thanks for setting us straight.

Reminds me of the two "Ninja" types who decided to rob a "Sportsman club" (private bar) in Australia. Some of the patrons happened to take notice. And "responded"

Said Patrons .... Well the local motorcycle club holds it's regular meetings at this same Sportsman Club.. They took exception to the ninja types robbing "Their" bar.

When the police arrived.... Several bikers were sitting on the criminals.. Nice and peaceful.

Somehow I expect the thieves were happy to go to jail.

Years ago in Detroit.. A would be hold up man tried to rip off the blind vendor at the snack bar in, of all places, the federal courthouse. Well, I guess he figured the blind man would not be able to describe him.

however the vendor's assistant, A Retired Marine Sgt with 20-20 vision... Had no problems describing him at all (he's the man I'm sitting on) Nor did the assorted Federal Judges and prosecutors and marshals who were arriving for the day's work.

Talk about one FAST trial and conviction... (Basically how fast could they type it up)

But the "caption" under the photo was so silly I was pretty sure it was a fake...

My other favorite "Not True But I Wish It Was" is the one about the old lady that runs four "carjackers" off at the point of a gun, only to discover that it wasn't her car they were sitting in.

It's a hoot! If you haven't read it...snopes.com: Gun-Toting Grannies

Just goes to prove you don't mess with one Marine and you sure as He-- don't mess with 4 of them. Kind of like the Texas Rangers...all it takes is one....

Actually, I think the guy that added the fake details to that story should have at least omitted the injured Marine's real name before he sent that little "joke" out on the web...

I hope that Marine isn't taking a bunch of flack because he and his buddies didn't rough the shoplifter up.
