I have an 01 GMC, GASSER, considering an aux gas tank. Found out the alum tanks for diesel will NOT be shipped to calif. (Oh to live in calif) I can buy a n 18 gal gas tank but wondering how to plumb it in. Federal law says no gas by gravity flow. Diesel filler "necks" are large then gas so that leaves out some of those options. Any ideas?

Try an outfit that makes custom fuel tanks for boats. I helped a new owner of an older wooden boat (gasoline powered 42 foot) solve his fuel tank problems by working with an sheet metal fabrication company to make new aluminum tanks. They worked great and were less expensive than expected. Aftermarket float type level indicators are easy to find if you need one. A marine type filler opening and cap would also probably work to fill the tank. Some kind of venting will be needed. Most shops will need a simple sketch of what you want - Length, width, height, openings, etc.

I'm not sure I'd use a gravity flow tank - I'd probably use a gasoline rated transfer pump and a bottom pickup tube in the tank to transfer fuel from the aux tank to the main tank at the filler opening.

I'm going to have custom aluminum tanks made for a 1965 IH Scout 80 I'm working on.

Check to see if tge chassis had option for second tank.

At some point they stopped making them available but it may possibleto have a chassis that was same going back to time where second tank was an option and it coukd still fit yours.

Filler neck and closed vent system will be issue with smog check so you may also look at a "transfer tank" where the product is stored in the tank and transfered to main tank.

Fuel systems require special attention so do your homework first.

The problem is, no gravity feed, so I can carry the fuel but how to get it in my tank. I have given thought to a electric fuel pump and ?

So I'm looking for ideas ? Shot of buying a diesel.

Fuel pump would be required to transfer the fuel to the other tank.

You may consider checking out toy hauler supplies as sme have fuel stations to supply the toys.

There may be an off the shelf solution that is built for rv use and gas.

Contact Transfer Flow (800) 442-0056 or go to their web site www.transferflow.com . (made in California) I think you should use only a DOT approved tank for insurance purposes on any mobile vehicle. I used to sell their fuel tanks in my working life at a truck equipment dealer. Good people to deal with and if they can't help maybe they can steer you to someone that can.
They make an excellent product.

I had a tank built in Los Angeles before all the federal concerns. It had a transfer valve mounted to the left of the clutch pedal and higher on the fire wall. I could switch it over using my foot. I am sure they won't install one now but I bet they would measure and build if you installed yourself. I had an electric fuel pump. Was no problem going from tank to tank. The tank selected at the time would have to have a certified cap.
