Backup Plan: Toad tows motorhome

Breaking news says the new Nissan will have a 300 hp, 500 lb-ft of torque, V-8 Cummin's in it. That's only a little less than the used Newmar i'm looking at, so if i were to have a mechanical issue, i could tow the motorhome to the nearest shop with the Nissan. Cool!

Just a thought!

In theory only. I seriously doubt the rest of the drivetrain would pull that much weight. Engine size is immaterial, you can pull a RR boxcar with an old gasoline washing machine motor, providing the drivetrain is designed to pull the load.
That new Cummins engine is planned for use with several auto manufacturers. Cummins also has a V4 engine on the planning board. When Caterpillar dropped out of the on-road market it left about 3 major mfgrs. of on-road diesel engines remaining.

I think I will stay with a ERS as my towing solution.

AND - does anyone else find it interesting that Nissan picked a Cummins for the light duty Diesel vs. a Japanese mfgt like Isuzu?

Cummins Engines

I think this will really heat-up the light pick-up truck segment, being offered in the Nissan 1500 vs. Ram's MV EcoDiesel coming in their 1500...
2014 RAM 1500 EcoDiesel V6 | Diesel Engine Truck | RAM Trucks
...of course it's a 3.0L V6, vs the Cummins 5.0L V8.

Drivetrain toughness

This was just a tongue-in-cheek concept, about towing the motorhome. Just seemed like a humorous visual.

I'm not a truck guy, and have never owned a diesel, so that whole industry and it's players are new to me. Now, after digging deeper, i see that Dodge already has an optional 6.7L engine for it's trucks. That's 385 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque that puts the Nissan further back in line.

Next time i'll do a little more research before jumping in here. Hat's off to Cummin's, for building such a fine engine though.

But that also makes a pickup that is in the range of a half ton, which many diesel heads have been looking for.
We have diesel VWs but no diesel pickups under 3/4 ton.

I never "towed" my motor home, but I did "PUSH" it with my Suzuki Grand Vitera, 4 wheel drive "Toad". M/H died as I was entering the campground. Would not stay running in "drive". So, wife drove the Vitera, in 4 wheel, and I steered the m/h into the site. Just had an 'A" frame tow bar. Level ground. Next morning drove to auto parts store and got a fuel filter, put it on, and no more problems.

Being a 5er guy, I have seen diesel pushers, would that be a gas pusher?
(Glad nothing serious.)
