BAD Day On The Bridge
Coming home yesterday was tied up in traffic because of this mishap.
A recreational vehicle got too close as the Michigan Street Bridge in Sturgeon Bay opened for boat traffic late Sunday morning, and the huge cement counterweight sheared off the front of the vehicle. No one was hurt!!!!!

Will you look at that!!! Glad no body was hurt. That is amazing! I can't imagine vehicles could get that close to the counter weight while the bridge was opening. Was there a gate stopping traffic?

Ouch. That is a bad day. My Mother used to say " it's not a problem if money can fix it ". Thankfully no one was hurt.

It was not immediately clear how the RV had ventured inside the warning gate that keeps traffic back when the span is lifted. No one was injured.

Is not the hut, behind the MH, the place where the bridges control man would be sitting ?

That was a nice looking rig also. Sure am glad no one was hurt. As others have mentioned, where were the warning devices? The picture in the report were even more graphic. I do not see any warning devices. What gives? I have never been through there, so can not fully comment, but . . . .

Looks like someone may get a new RV thanks to the bridge authority.

I crossed that bridge Sunday going North and again today going South, it is narrow and low (13'-6"). Because of construction you are detoured across the bridge and through downtown, traffic is really bad.

That has got to hurt considering the owners got to watch, in slow motion, their coach get totaled.

I'd hazard a guess they didn't see it in slow motion. I'll bet they were too busy making a run for the rear of the coach.
Sickening images all the same.
If there was heavy traffic on the bridge at the time the bridge lifted, its easy to see how the RV could have been in the wrong place at the wrong time...
What puzzles me is that if the bridge were automatic (highly unlikely), then there should be a load of sensors to detect a vehicle in the danger zone.
If the bridge was operated manually then the bridge operator must really hate beautiful RV's.
Would love to hear the result of the accident investigation for this one. Hopefully someone will update this thread when the report is published...
