Baffled with electrical problem

Sometimes troubleshooting circuits can make you RIP your hair out. There have been a few times in my 15 years as an electrician that we have torn circuits apart, and then put them back together and everything worked as it should. Only thing I can think is that they must have had a lose connection and when we put them back together it was done correctly.

Side note, I pulled up to a hospital job we were doing and saw 2 of my guys trying to figure out while these bollard lights weren't working correctly. They were standing right next to 1 of the lights and it was on. When I pulled up they walked over to my van and we talked for about 5 minutes and the light went off.

They were guessing loose neutral. It peaked my interest. So as I grabbed my tools and walked over the the light it turned on without me touching it. Hmmmm. I yelled at the guys and told them I fixed the lights.

They were baffled. Long story short. Each light had a photo cell, and each light had a MOTION SENSOR. Lord knows how long they would have worked on that circut[emoji23]

Jay D., I just had a similar situation on my older Georgie Boy and if I measured from hot to ground I had 120V and from neutral to ground I had 120V. It ended up being a neutral wire that had come loose in a plug. Something like this might have been causing your issue. You can read 120V on the ground when the ground is floating (not connected to anything) as anything that has some connection to ground will create an inadvertent connection.
