It's still important to have one, if for no other reason that those periods when the trailer is not plugged to anything. The trailer brakes, for example, run off the battery if it comes loose from the tow vehicle.
What is NOT important for your situation is to have a large capacity (amp-hour) battery or a higher quality deep cycle type. You can use most anything since it is mostly just a brief back-up power source.
