Having a red eye doesn't necessarily mean the battery is bad, just that it is low on charge. You will need to have the battery tested to be completely sure on it's life.

Replacing with a battery with higher CCA rating battery is not a problem.

I just replaced mine and it was red. Green when charged up. You can check the water and try to charge it, but it may be done. Mine was 8 years old.

Mine is an E450SD. Takes a group 65 battery, trying a NAPA AGM battery.

back when I had a battery with an eye I think it meant "Sufficently charged to test" Pretty much if it's older than 5 yrs it's done with.

If you need to replace it you might want to consider a cheaper alternative. Sam's Club and Walmart have some at a lot less than you'd pay at Napa, Interstate, or somewhere like that. I just got 2 deep cycle batteries- group 27 at Sam's for $85.00 apiece. Napa's were about $120.00 I think. Starting batteries obviously will be cheaper anywhere.

A lot depends on use. We are out in ours once a month for maybe two weeks. The battery is used a lot then. If it sits for weeks at a time and does not get fully charged, then its life is shortened. Just sitting there are things drawing current from the chassis battery. Longer they sit the lower they get.
