Be Careful Out There

Just wanted to remind everyone out there how lives can be instantly changed.

Smithfield, NC : Trucker charged in fatal I-95 crash crews reopen highway on Thursday 20 October 2016 at Smithfield,North Carolina, United States | www.accidentsinus.com

We were on I-95 in NC at the time all of this happened and was stopped in the southbound lanes just before where the truck went off the road. We were parked for over an hour on the highway. Saw the helicopter land and takeoff from the highway. Then the worst part came.

When the helicopter was leaving, they closed the northbound lanes as well to allow it to take off. A few minutes later they reopened the SB lanes to let us pass. When we got down the road a ways we saw the result of the northbound road closure...very disturbing. The RV they mention literally looked like a pile of scrap. We actually couldn't tell what it was :( How anyone in the car survived was a miracle. That night we heard about the third crash/explosion which had occurred behind us when we were parked on the I-95, and the 3 lives that were lost in the 2 RVs.

As I write this my stomach is still in a knot, so be careful out there..

my opinion, being "Parked" on a highway is much more dangerous than moving along it.

I try to pull off to the side... inboard or outboard side of roadway..
I carry a few magazines just for this type of delay

Everyone be careful out there.

Definetly not a good idea to park on the shoulder.

Parking on the shoulder would leave nowhere for the vehicle coming behind you that was not paying attention to go to. I have had one go by me like that once and it is scary.

That was exactly the case here. Some people tried to pull over on the shoulder but as soon as they did, a police car came up and made them move back onto the highway. They were using the shoulder for the emergency vehicles.

Just once I'd like to read a news article that clearly explains the headline.
