Bear Country and Coffee Pot

We will be hosting next month in what could be considered Bear Country and I have a question we have a Propane coffee pot and I would like to set it up the night before (outside next to the MH) that way all I have to do in the morning is turn it on and let the coffee make.....

I wouldn't want to do that even without bears..... Bugs will crawl in, plus the coffee will get damp overnight. How hard it it to carry it outside in the morning ?

I don't know if bears like coffee grounds or not. It is edible and hungry bears will eat just about anything. If they decide to snack on your coffee grounds, knowing how "gentle" bears are, you will be replacing the coffee maker too.

There certainly are grounds for bears to eat coffee grounds. All they do is tip the coffee maker over, jump on it for a minute, pop the lid and eat all the insides of it.
Then the bear looks at your front door and wonders what else there is inside your RV.....hmmm!

Have you seen a bear on caffeine? To bears, coffee is an appetizer.

I was visualizing a bear carrying off your coffee pot and leaving a torn-loose LP line while you slept. I think you made a good decision.

Back in the day when we maintained the Yosemite park radio systems we would see amazing photos inside the ranger stations of bear damage.

First think of peel back container tops like the seals under the too of plastic coffee cans or snack items.

Now replace image of container to that of small car!

Folks would leave window cracked to allow hot air out as it gets hot here then bears follow the smell and tty en tear the top off of the container (car) to get lunch.

Be certian your outdoor storage has zero food and no food smells as bears are good at locating and recovering them.

Sounds like you're a good host. Now it's a little known fact, that bears on coffee 'without Kahlua' become mightily ticked off! So, be sure to also leave the Kahlua out with the coffee...

Lee - I suspect it would be the smell more then the actual taste/eating of coffee that would attract them. Not just to your site, but to those around you too. Once they're in a campground area, who knows what they might nose around and find?

Maybe set everything up except adding the coffee grounds. Then in the AM, add the grounds, and fire up the propane?

Be good, have fun,
Smitty
