Beaver Contessa San Marco-2000 38'-Need Cabinet Maker

We purchase our Beaver Contessa San Marco close to 1 year ago. It had only
15K miles on it and it is in excellent condition.

Prior to that, we owned a 2003 Winnebago Sightseer 30' (purchased brand new) which was a very good motorhome. When we sold it, it only had 22K miles on it and we had reupholstered the furniture, new window cornices & coverings, new glass shower door, removed the spare chair and replaced it with a small wood fireplace/heater, new wallpaper trim, placed pull-out drawers in the small pantry and we also pulled out the old bedroom upholstered headboard and replaced it with a wrought iron headboard. I completed most of the upholstering and my husband installed the shower and new cornices.

In our new Beaver, it was very "dated" so we have covered all of the many (5) large mirrors with tile (kit/bath) and white textured off white wallpaper. We removed the old sofa and replaced it with a new leather sofa bed, removed the extra chair and replaced it with a small fireplace/heater, covered the bedroom walls with the same textured wallpaper and installed a wrought iron large sconce over the bed and placed nice wall vinyl appliques where the slide comes out near the kitchen counter. We completed all of the renovations ourselves. The wood cabinets and flooring throughout is a beautiful Maple hardwood in great condition.

We now need to remove the cabinetry which held the old boxy tv's in the bedroom and over the drivers seat. (they take up quite a bit of room). We also want to have a custom cabinet made where the small fireplace is and install a TV lift coming from behind the unit. My husband is in the process of installing slide out drawers in the pantry.

Can anyone suggest a custom cabinet maker/installer who has worked on motorhomes in the Sacramento, Ca area? Very tough to find. We've called several places but there aren't alot in this area.

Any help would be appreciated -

Have you tried these two shops that have a good reputation in Sacramento? ...both have experienced woodworkers and cabinetmakers on staff or did at one time:

RV Doctor George

Specialized RV

I also wouldn't rule out a good residential woodworker or cabinetmaker. Just because they've never worked with RV cabinetry doesn't necessarily mean that as a skilled cabinetmaker they can't adapt their skills to an RV application.

To give an example --we made friends with a couple in an RV park who where snowbirding. They had a beautiful Airstream trailer that they wanted to slightly renovate and rearrange the floor plan a bit. It included building a dinette and some cabinetry both on the floor and overheads. They asked a local mobile RV handyman/repair person that had a very good reputation in town as a good mobile RV repair person whose son worked along side if they could do the job of fabricating those cabinets and the custom dinette they wanted. They said "no problem!" and gave them several local references of the cabinets they had done on some other RVs. The references had nothing but good things to say about their work and had photos to prove it.

We had used this father and son team for some minor roof repairs, to solve some electrical issues we were having and also they fixed a slide problem. They did good work for very reasonable prices. I was impressed.

So this couple went ahead and hired them to do the work they wanted. Well, even though they had a good reputation of being good with RV carpentry and supposedly made some fantastic cabinets for others they must have been in over their head on this project as they quit mid-project and refunded some of the money back to the couple.

They then called a local residential cabinet maker in town who worked by himself on recommendation from some local residents. He came in and cleaned up the faulty work did an absolute beautiful job completing the project exceeding the couple's expectations. I witnessed the completed project with my own eyes once it was completed. It was terrific and, to me, flawless. Turns out this cabinetmaker in his over twenty years in business had never worked on RV cabinetry before this.

Thanks for the info! We're just now starting to look and talk to contractors – there seem to be a lot around that we're checking out – once we have it done in the next couple of months will post some pictures -thanks again !
