Because:
Because of our military, this weekend I drove my motorhome to a park. My kids played at an amusement park. We shopped at stores. We ate good food. We slept securely.
To those who gave, those who served and those on patrol today around the world and at home, thank you for our freedoms, security and pride.

You said it brother! For most, Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, VJ Day, VE Day etc, are just holidays or days off from work . . . . without any thought to why they exist.

I agree that all who serve deserve our thanks for their willingness to fight to protect our freedoms... But also think they deserve an apology, for being ordered to fight to restrict the freedoms of others.

I trust that’s not a blanket statement that applies to all the conflicts our country has been involved in!

I like to put it this way.
It is written that NO GREATER LOVE HAS ANY MAN THEN TO LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR A FRIEND [mod edit]
And that is exactly what our service men and women do every day. THey put their lives on the line.... So you and I do not have to.
NO GREATER LOVE.

My point was, your statement regarding the restriction of others. Perhaps you can expand on that notion.

I guess you need to provide some examples of which you speak. That statement kinda leaves a bad taste.

Yep, unfortunately very true. This important day was put in place to honor those who had served in our militaries to keep our country safe and free. We all need to remember our fallen heroes but also the men and women who have served and are serving our country today. It's sad that so many people forget this importance and use Memorial Day for yet another party day.
To all Veterans and your Families, Thank You!

Memorial Day, or Decoration Day as it was originally called, is a day to think of all those who died for our country.

First, let me say "I served" '69 to '71.
It would take very little "expansion" to change into a political debate. And no vet that I have said "Welcome Home" and "I'm sorry" to has acted offended.
Look up a list of countries that the US military has been involved in, and compare to the list of counties that have invaded us to take our freedoms...
