Sounds like you have the same set up as me--pleated shades that are held in place by taut strings on each side. Yes, I have the same issue with the bowed metal bottom frame.
I suspect the problem arises because, in order to lower the shades, you must pull down on the knobs which are located near the ends of the metal frame resulting in downward pressure on the ends, but not in the middle. You cannot pull down on the middle by itself because the strings on each end bind. Over the years, the downward pressure on the ends will cause the metal to bend or arc as the middle portion is somewhat resistant to movement by the pleats.
Though I haven't tried, I believe you can fix the shades yourself. If you remove them and place the metal frame on a flat surface with a block of wood under each end, you should be able to press
gently down on the middle to remove the bend. The key here is to press gently and carefully so the arc is eventually removed.
Problem is, once reinstalled, the bend will reappear due to the design of the shade assembly. Playing with the degree of tightness of the strings may make lowering easier, but there is a delicate balance in ability to hold the shades down and slack in the strings.
