Best state parks?

I have a question for you folks who have traveled the country staying at state parks.

which states do you think have the nicest state parks?

If you have a 40' or longer MH, what percentage of the time do you find that the state parks cannot accommodate you?

Thanks for your comments!

We're mostly west-coasters and are very partial to Oregon State Parks -> beautiful parks, reasonably priced ($20-25) and we've yet to visit one that doesn't accommodate our size (40-foot).

Our least favorite, just for comparison are California State Parks. They're expensive and small and the vast majority won't fit our size.

Some of my favorite parks are in California (i.e. Big Basin Red Redwoods). However they are mostly for tent camping (and cabin rentals). Looking forward to an Oregon trip.

We spent a week at Cedar Hill SP in Texas and that was nice. It has lakeside sites, hiking trails, awesome mountain bike trails, and other amenities. The sites were spacious and private and they have plans to expand their RV accommodations (though they seem to have a lot already).

"Governor Rick Scott announced at today’s Florida Cabinet meeting that Florida State Parks are now the nation’s only three-time winner of the National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in the management of state park systems."

Never been done by any other state.

We also love Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas and Arkansas.

Don't forget Kentucky. They have some incredible parks with RV spaces on Kentucky Lake and on Dale Hollow Lake.

Colorado has the worst state parks. When there is a big holiday weekend coming up, they don't even mow the weeds in the campgrounds. They have the trash piled up so high in dumpsters, it is stacked around the bin where it has fallen. They let the trees die instead of watering or spraying the insects. I am not proud to live in this state which charges $7 to $8 a day for entry, to parks which aren't even maintained. And the "goat heads" are horrible in the fall.

I've had good luck with VA and MD state parks. Modern facilities, friendly staff and reasonably priced.

Have to add my voice to Oregon SP's. They have some very nice locations, are well maintained and reasonably priced. Some of the very best on the west coast imo, including provincial parks in BC and up to the Yukon.

I am watching this thread due to looking at an upgrade to a 40' rig. But very few of the comments are mentioning the 40' length accessibility at the parks. We are traveling through Florida and using a lot of their state parks. A 40' will fit in most of these in some sites. There is one Mississippi state park outside of Meridian that a 40' will not fit. I barely got my 33' in there.

By far arkansas we have been from the east coast to the west coast and arkansas has them all beat. Sites are big prices are cheap and lots to do. Go around hot springs ar for sure. If you have the America the beautiful pass they are half off making your stay from $10 to $15 a night. Also just west of hot springs there is a state campground that is on the lake forgot the lake name but it starts with a o it is like a resort with boat rentals a store everything you can want almost. Hope this helps

Great info folks! Keep it coming!

Most of you aren't saying about whether the parks will accommodate a 40' MH?

Arkansas does have some nice state parks. We go to Village Creek State Park near Wynne. Lots of things to do, certain sites could easily handle a 45' coach. 50 amp service with full hookups, and well maintained.
