Best year(s) for used Sprinters

I cannot afford a new class B or C Sprinter based motorhome so am looking at used ones. What past years would you encourage me to look at, which ones to avoid, and your reasons why would be great for me and other readers of this thread.

I like the Sprinter diesel and would consider it for an RV or van if I was in the market. Be aware that they are expensive to repair or maintain, especially if funds are limited. You might want to read on THIS forum to find out about Sprinter issues.

The 5-cylinder engine was quite good. Plenty of power on big hills. Had fuel flexibility for biodiesel, high or low sulfur. Fastest acceleration of any they ever made. The 6-cylinder took a terrible hit in power and mpg due to the EPA requirements. Avoid these. The Blu-tec 6-cylinder diesel is almost as good as the 5-cylinder in speed and acceleration and has made up a lot of the lost mpg problem so it is the best engine in today's market. Avoid the early models with the 6 gallon urea tank that was filled from the side. Difficult to get to for filling and caused a serious loss of storage. Get one that the DEF fill point is under the hood. Probably around 2011 where the manufacturers started ordering Sprinters with that option.
