If you get your new mattress in the afternoon or evening, my advice is to leave it in the box until the next day. Then, first thing in the morning, get rid of your old mattress, unbox the new one, and put it on the platform to expand. Don't put sheets or anything on it yet; leave it open to the air. By the time you go to bed that night, it should be fine to sleep on, though it might take a few more days to get fully up to height.

Off-gassing can be a problem with memory foam mattresses, especially in a confined space like an RV. You should open a window or vent in your bedroom, weather permitting.

And to add to others, keep it warm, like 75 or above to help it acclimate and expand quicker when it is out of the packaging.

Recommendations for bad backs state it can be worse if you lay flat. Try putting your back in a different position by elevating your knees with pillows or special foam pillows especially for that purpose. Experiment with elevating your head, also. Try not to sleep on your back but instead, your side. There are also back strengthening exercises. If you can take it, try ONE 800mg ibuprofen tablet at bedtime. Myself.. I have spinal stenosis and surgery was recommended to relieve the pressure.

I wouldn't go to the expense of a new mattress until you find out what's wrong with your back. Good luck.

Have you followed through on the surgery? Spinal stenosis here also. Getting tired of the pain, lack of leg mobility, trying to find different positions, etc.

No I haven't. It's not consistent so when I'm feeling good I block it from my mind. Chicken, I guess.

Spinal stenosis. Here is the fix. Had it done 1 year ago. Going for an second one next week. 30 min out patient surgery. In with a walker out on my on 2 feet. You'll need MRI. Medicare pays for it all.

This is the one we ordered a few years ago on Amazon:

DynastyMattress 10-Inch CoolBreeze Gel Memory Foam Mattress for RV, Camper-Short Queen Size

We left it in our 5th wheel when we sold it and I really miss it. We used it to replace a regular residential queen mattress that was too long to walk around. Both of us thought this new mattress was very comfortable. My husband has degenerative disk disease and endures constant back pain and he liked this mattress.

"I bought a memory foam gel topper and still no relief."

Thanks in advance[/QUOTE]

There are many different thicknesses and qualities of memory foam. We found 4 in thick minimum high quality memory foam cures any bad mattress. Don't go cheap; what is your back worth? Good luck and good rest!

We bought a standard queen foam mattress that we liked and took out the one that came with our MH. Works great and we sleep well!

buy a sleep number bed and put a 4 " foam topper on it. Works great for a terribly bad back!
