Black Tank issues

I have a friend with a Alfa Gold and he had waste water in his under belly, we took the under belly down and cleaned everything. After testing the only leak found was when the black tank was filled full to the toilet entry, then it would start leaking from the top side of the black tank. The coach was still under warranty so we button everything up and he took it to the dealer and they are telling him that's normal, the tank has a vent. I have been camping for over 40 yrs and watched many videos and I think your only vent on a black tank is the roof vent. Curious if anyone has a comment on this.

You are correct. However, many vent stack and toilet connections to the tank are simply pipes friction fitted thru a large rubber grommet to the tank. Sometimes those connections aren't leak free.

That was my comment to him to relay to the dealer, to check the connection between tank and toilet. Thanks

What? You can only fill your tank to the 2/3rds mark? I've never heard of this. We've had 3 motorhomes and not one of them had a restriction like that. Gotta ask, if there is a vent leak at that point, wouldn't there be some black tank smell in the general vicinity?

My thoughts exactly, we have had many campers over the years never had this problem and presently have a open range 427 and a year ago I got distracted by a fellow camper while flushing my tank (lesson learned) and as we stood in the front talking it start flowing off the awning coming from the vent pipe on roof, with no leaking from under the rig. Thats what should happen in my opinion with a tight s
eal everywhere. I told my friend it wouldn't surprise me that he would be told a story like they did. Fresh water tank should be the only tank with a overflow. Thanks for all the input.
