I would check for any delays on I40 from Knoxville to Ashville as they have been working on several areas that had landslides this last winter. There have been numerous reports of delays.

It might be better to get on 40 in Knoxville and then continue up 81 then drop off on 77 toward Wilmington.

Again, I would check on any construction delays and then make a decision.

Good Luck

Thank you for the suggestions. We have ten days to go from St. Louis to Wilmington, NC so we will take our time and enjoy the ride.

Today we drove Hwy 40 from Knoxville to Waynesville, NC. We were pulling a small car and had no problems. Thanks again for your suggestions.
