Boondocking at Hershey Show

I'm curious about the procedure to boondock at the Hershey Show next month. Do you need to reserve a spot? If so, how do you reserve it?

The last time I took our RV to Hershey, I just found a spot I liked near the exit lanes. There is plenty of room in the parking lot. We only stayed one day though. As far as I know there is no designated area for RVs. The earlier you get there the closer to the entrance you can get. They do not have anyone one parking you. Enjoy.

Steve, where did you find the info on the overnight rate? I didn't see it on their site.

Hi all - we overnighted at Hershey about 3 years ago. They DO have a designated spot for RV's to stay overnight. No reservations, it is 1st come for space. It is the Giant Center that charges you - they will not let you stay in one of the big parking lots. They were set up to take a credit card at the gate to the RV lot (opposite side of the Giant Center from the day parking). Worth it? No. Apparently the Hershey Wastewater Treatment plant is right behind the Giant Center. The odor was overpowering at times. It is dry camping, OK to run genny. Adequate space to pull out the BBQ - it's just a paved section of parking lot. Might want to check out the Flying J in Harrisburg instead - not too far away. Might also be a casino around there, can't recall... Hope this helps!

Thanks for all of your responses. I think we will probably just drive down in our car and either leave early in the morning or overnight in Harrisburg. It sounds like taking the rig down would be more of a pain than it's worth.

The Hollywood Casino is on Rt 743 approx. 10 miles north of the Giant center. 15 minute drive to Hershey. They do allow RV parking.

I also see many RV's parked boon docking on the north side of Hershey park dr which is across the street from Hershey Park. This area is sometimes referred to as the old airport runways. I know the property is owned by Hershey but don't know who to contact about how to get in there or if it's open to the public.

RV parking is at the old Hershey Airport, no reservations are accepted, first come/first served, $50/night, no hookups, no open fires but they turn a blind eye to fire pits if kept reasonable size, my buddy has been going the past 15 years and every time he is able to get the same spot. The area adjacent to the pollution control plant is reserved for the auction consigners so no worries there. Have fun!

Hershey Park Camping Resort is also an option. Only a mile & a half from the show & has free shuttles to & from the show all day long. Since it's a campground, cable, full hook ups, grilling & fires allowed. Looked pretty nice!
