Angry Booster Seat for Lap Belt Only?

Hey there,

We're heading up to the Pacific Northwest with our soon-to-be five-year-old daughter next month! It's going to be super fun.

Unfortunately, my husband tossed our convertible car seat without considering the consequences: booster seats all seem to require a shoulder belt to work. I know that it's not *required* to wear a restraint of any kind as a passenger in an RV, but we both feel more comfortable if she's, you know, not standing up next to the driver, talking a mile a minute.

Are there ANY booster seats that will work? Any advice? Should we purchase another convertible seat?

I have watched this as our 5 yo granddaughter is coming with us this year. The problem is, there are no suitable car seats for her. She has outgrown her car seat, and moved on to booster seats, but as the OP has stated, you can't use them on the lap belts in an RV. The best advice I've found so far is to properly seat her in the front passenger seat, with her booster seat, just be sure to disable the passenger airbag.

Oh, I hadn't considered putting her in the front seat! I'll suggest that to my husband. Thanks so much!

Our 5 year old granddaughter travelled with us for 2 weeks last year. We placed her car seat in the front passenger seat while Grandma road behind on the coach. She had a great time and enjoyed both the view and celebrity status of sitting up front. Believe it or not, we travelled for 2 weeks, covering about 1300 miles and she didn't ask "Are we almost there yet?" even once. She constantly asks when she can come with us in our motorhome again.

I put my 1.5 year old in the front seat last year on a 3000 mile trip and had no issues then. The problem now is that he thinks that the front seat is his, and no one else can sit there.
