If you are going to be crossing the border quite often, you may want to check out getting a Nexus pass. It saves a lot of time at the border and even at airports as it qualifies for TSA pre-check.

Many times, the RV lanes are not well marked, or not at all. For example, entering the US at the Lewiston/Queenston bridge, while it's clearly marked for cars/RVs to go one way, and trucks to go another, once you get to that split there are no more signs to say which of the dozen lanes are acceptable for RVs. My first time through I stayed to the right near the truck lanes, and got yelled at for taking the wrong lane. They said it was marked, but to this day I have not yet found any such signs.

This is the key: All of the lanes will have yellow scanner boxes on each side but the RV lanes will have double height boxes just like the truck lanes. Look for any signs for RVs, but if can't find them, head for the lanes with the taller yellow scanners.

This past October we travelled with our TT across CA between Lewiston & Sarnia and back from Sarnia & Niagara Falls. We were asked the questions listed in other posts as well as if we had firearms, weapons, alcohol or tobacco.....no queries relating to food or personal items. I wonder if it was the fact we were only passing through CA that we weren't asked about food.
