Drove semi's for too many years. Saw quite a few of these. The lane with the measurement posted is for that lane only. The middle lane will clear a 13"6 semi with no problem otherwise it would be posted also.

Here in western Michigan US-131 has an overpass at 100th street, this bridge has been struck 11 times in 17 months
Original bridge height sign reads 13' 11" but, must have sank a bit, MDOT has ground down the pavement under to bridge to give more clearance

My cousin borrowed a RV and when going through I think Kentucky he hit a low bridge. Wasn’t a good phone call I expect.

This summer I wanted to go from Carson City to South Lake Tahoe on hwy 50. My Garmin was set at 12' 8". The GPS would not route me that way , it wanted me to go to Minden then around and come into Tahoe another way. I had talked to others that traveled that route in 40' MHs and they said no troubles. Well I turned off the routing and just left the map up, When I got to the tunnels the GPS started warning me. The tunnel markings at the edges of the arch were less than 12'8" but the center was fine. it was a two lane road each way and I just moved a little towards the center.

Reminds me of the Interstate Five bridge north of Portland Oregon.
A couple-three years ago, a tiny piece of plastic contacted the bridge. After the bridge, the driver got out, checked the scratched plastic shrugged, got back in and continued the journey.
Now, you and I would doubt a # of plastic could damage a million# of concrete and steel. But we aren't bureaucrats.
The bureaucrats, in their infinite wisdom, closed the bridge for a year, detouring interstate traffic through a convoluted series of one-lane country roads.
I hear the insurance company about went broke.

GPS? Relying on gadgets instead of eyes and ears sounds like those texters walking into open sewer access holes. In shopping mauls, texters walk into planters and ponds.

There are a few in Yosemite National park that have an arch opening and on the right side it reads 10' 2". These are not totally lined and one time I hit a rock that was sticking out, minor damage to the end and cover but sounded bad. I drive a little down the middle now!

Bingo! You win the grand prize for knowing what those arrows indicate.

It's not too uncommon for low clearance roadbeds to be repaved, old signage not changed and then KABOOM!!!!

Dude, during paving projects, PA contractors mill down the road surface several inches under overpasses like this one, before laying down new asphalt. When they're done, the clearance is correct as labeled. Maybe they don't do that in other states, but they sure do it here! I would assume it's required in the contracts, too.

So what do you do when you approach a bridge at 65 MPH and see this??? Wowza! Plenty of trucks on the road too.

Several years ago, when navigation systems were coming on line, I bought the latest version for motor homes from Camping World that included height setting route restrictions. We were following this system through Mobile Alabama during morning rush hour when roadside alarms and sirens went off. I was able to get stopped just short of a tunnel. The system said height was ok, but ??? What a mess. I was able to back up the MH with a toad for a short distance and maneuver onto I 10 which ran adjacent to our route. While attending a Camping World ralley I asked them about this problem and where I could stick it. Lots of finger pointing but no volunteers. No more navigation systems!

Your system warned you that you were about to enter the Bankhead Tunnel, clearance 12 feet.
