If you meekly allow the LEO "throw his weight around", he's the only one that has any fun (and you miss all the enjoyment of a traffic stop).

My grandfather was with the Pomona P.D. and later the L.A.P.D.; this is what he told me about traffic stops when I first learned to drive:
Be polite, answer succinctly and get the h**l out of there as soon as you can. Even if you were wrongly pulled over, don't argue and don't be rude. You will never win against an officer during a traffic stop; that is why we have courts so fight it there.
Also on an amusing note, you can get cited for "illegal hand signal & mis-use of horn" if a cop sees you honk & flip off another driver. You can also get the charges dropped if you take it to court and know how to fight it.

There is no way a LEO can take cash "without cause". And I have lots of friends who are LEOs, chiefs of police, state troopers, and detectives. Re-read the articles you cite - full of misrepresentation by those stopped, those who waive their rights to their cash, and other sorts of reasons that the cash was taken - once again, if not legally done FOR CAUSE, then it's robbery. And there's always legal recourse.
N'est-ce pas?

Relax .............they are there to serve and protect. Act normal, is that too hard to do ? Going 5 over in a school zone (saw my sheriff decal, and told me to have a good day)............. escorted out of town, when blowing my train horn at a RR crossing .............. Sarge wanted to know why I didn't have my license on the truck front bumper, quote, I just polished that big texas chrome bumper. She said , I patrol m46 and 57, put it on. I told her that we just put a guy in prison for CSC with a last name like yours, she said, I know, that was my X. we laughed for 15 minutes. Enjoy what life you have left.

I am from Colorado. I have Colorado plates on everything I own. I also have long hair (middle of my back) and a long goatee.
I have never been stopped.
From what I have heard a person couldn't hardly go into a "pot" shop and buy pot and take it to another state for profit.

Constitutional rights are like muscles, they atrophy if you do not use them....
Be polite,
Answer nothing, As an officer who did a lot of investigation, my style was to simply let people talk themselves right into trouble....
People get nervous and talk to much.....
Video recording is a wonderful thing. Federal courts have been clear, you are allowed to record police doing the job....They record you...
Let them have your drivers license, insurance, registration,
otherwise, all you need to say is:
I do not submit to searches,
I do not answer questions,
ask am I being detained??,
May I go??
am I being detained???,
May I go now???
am I being detained??
May I go now??
If they care to continue violating your rights, let them, the meter is running, and the courts will settle it later, and your check will be split with your lawyer

Being very familiar with the training and use of scent detection dogs, I can say the chance of a "false" response by a dog is less than you being struck by lighting or hitting the lottery.
The dog probably spent more time on the tires because it is where the most scents are left by other dogs "marking." It is the USA Today newspaper of the dog world.

Thanks for the terrific insight. I've been stopped a couple of times in the past fifty years and responded close to your recommendations. Got lucky although nothing to hide. However, I can't imagine what an intrusion it would be if a LEO decided to illegally search my coach! Might miss my happy hour.

I always try to remember LEO's have a difficult, dangerous job, as we saw in the news this week. I am polite, answer yes or no to their questions, and keep my hands in plain sight at all times. I doubt LEO's profile Colorado plates for drug carriers.
