The RV industry seems to be unique in that it produces units that usually are not perfect, sometimes not even close, and doesn't suffer from it. People keep buying brands that are lambasted on the RV forums, guess they don't do research.
However, if you feel you should take out the dealer/distributor in most sales situations, then there isn't much reason for a dealer/distributor to carry the product. HitchHiker and Excel come to mind.
Not sure where the correct answer lies, but if you can find a mfg-direct deal that actually will save you money--go for it, because many times, getting any warranty work done correctly, or at all, is a gamble.
And then, you could always rely on an after-market warranty policy and gamble on that also.
Also, you may not have found a real salesman yet--there are some out there who value the customer.

When I first started looking I went to several dealerships wanting to see some models. The range of actions from the salesmen went from total disinterest to falling down willing to help. Turned out I bought used but the dealership that offered me the most help now gets my business from parts to repairs. I have told the manager that also. Great people.

This is absolutely not true. There are thousands and thousands of full-timers and they certainly don't schedule months out and yes, if you did not buy from a certain dealer, you will still be able to get warranty work done from that dealer. Full-timers rarely return to the same dealer...what if they bought in NY and are in CA needing work. They don't drive back to NY for service! As full-timers for 16 years with two different RVs, we got service wherever we were. We made an appt., usually drove in the previous night and stayed on their lot - most often even with electric - the work was done the next day and either we left that day or spent another night. If they know it's your home they're not going to put you out of it for months.

No need to get upset. There are SEVERAL posts on this site that strongly disagree with you and describe exactly what I stated. Glad you had a better experience than many. Again, this is about warranty work. not normal service and repairs

The only thing I'm upset about is stating something that isn't the normal. Yes, there might be very few full-timers who have trouble with warranty and it's probably because of the manufacturer. It certainly is not the norm. How would full-timers deal with having to wait months for a repair? They don't. Our last RV was bought in Oregon and the first warranty work was done in Arizona. We've always been surrounded by full-timers and none had issues getting warranty work done elsewhere. They make an appointment, the parts are ordered and the repair is done at their appointed time. They don't drop off their RV and let it sit there. That's their home. Dealers understand this.

If you find a manufacturer that deals with you directly, they're going to be grossly expensive custom built RV's. Very few people can afford them.

If you don't want to deal with a salesman face to face, do your buying by email.
