Buying an RV that's in a Montana LLC - protection?

How does one if buying an RV that is held in a Montana LLC ensure the seller is authorized to sell the RV? Buyer is in California. Seller says a clear title, no lien holder. Buyer is paying cash, so no lien holder either.

First I'd get the vin and call the Dmv in the state that it is titled in and see if there are any liens/brands against it, I do this with any titled vehicle I buy. About 10 years ago tried to buy a travel trailer from a guy who had a title soley in his name with no lien holder, after calling the Dmv found that a bank did have a lien against it. After a big ordeal found out from his exwife that he had filed for a lost title before he used it for collateral so he had 2 titles to the same trailer and turned one into the bank when he got the loan. Trust no one...
