Calgon water softner in Wash.??
We have been looking in every corner of every store we come across in Washington and Oregon for the Calgon Water softner, so we could start the GEO cleaning method.
Today on another site I read that Calgon Softner has been banned in Wash. & Ore. due to a phosphate .
Any one have any other tried and true ideas ??????

Yeah, mine just was shipped from Amazon too. About $10 for a 40 oz. box
By the way, Calgon also sells a bath version (12 oz.) No idea if it would work
in our tanks.

Larry
A few years ago I went to our local Albertsons and askd for it. They said they didn't carry it but could order it for me and they did. I haven't needed any since.

Is the Geo Method really worth all that trouble ? I don't see the advantage or savings. I rarely use any chemicals at all and never smell a thing. We I bought my first Motorhome over 30 years ago I fell into that trap of buying /using all kinds of chemicals and slowly got away from that and now its down to almost none.

Winco carries water softener. Any softener will work, you don't have to have Calgon.

I use Dawn dish soap or cheap liquid laundry detergent from the Dollar store.
At the end of a trip I dump the black tank and then add a cup of liquid soap and fill the tank to the top. I let it sit 24 hours and then drain again.
I then add a cup of liquid soap again and about two to three gallons of water and store it that way.
While on the road regular dumping and using lots of water keeps it from smelling.
I don't think Calgon is necessary.

I tend to agree with you, the less chemicals the better.
On the other hand, my cheapie stock tank gauges are inaccurate
and if the Geo Method can help I'd be happy.
I will try the powered Calgon and Dawn deal for improved gauges,
I don't have odors.
By the way, I heard somewhere Calgon may be restricted some places
because of the phosphorous content.
Others may know better.

No chemicals for me either. 3 or 4 times a years I use a cup of dawn in all 3 tanks and then drive to my next destination and dump ASAP. 6 plus years now with no odors.

The Info on Calgon fails to mention phosphors but then I do not have a package on hand to read the label myself so I can't be sure.
A thought occured to me if you can't find it in the usuall haunts, Check Lowes or Home Depot type stores, Yup, they carry related product lines, Did not specifically see Calgon or a competitor but I was looking for..... Something else.
It fits in this thread.. Anyone ever think those stores miss the boat.. I mean when you visit the restroom for a bit of er... rest... you sit down on a standard industrial model.. Why not use a standard RESIDENTIAL model, different one in each stall and on the inside of the stall door a sign

Questions that maybe relates to this:
Can you use calgon as a water softner such as your home softner or is it for black tank use only? I bought a lawnsprayer garden hose attachment that I am going to attach to my water hose so when I start each summer I can run a tank with bleach being automatically sucked out of the garden hose sprayer before I start. I do not plan on drinking the water, even after rinsing the tank. We do like to shower if possible in the camper at the lakes and it would be really nice if you could add a solution to the tank and get soft water for the DW? Funny how everything revolves around her, yet she doesn't seem to notice that little fact!!! LOL If you can't use it for that is there something that can just be added to the tank when you are loading the fresh water in?
