California Highways are tough on rigs

Last year I drove south on Highway 101. The road turned to crap as soon as I entered California. It was so rough that it knocked my mirrors out of alignment. Not too serious.

Yesterday I drove south on I-5. What a horrible rough road, at least in the right lane where I have to drive.

First my "System Control Panel" died. Tiles in my bathroom shook loose. My tachometer stopped working (at least I know how fast I can go before I redline) and then my microwave crapped out. Who knows what's wrong with that! Guess I'll be eating cold food tonight.

I vow I will never NEVER drive my motorhome in California again. I don't care how far out of my way I have to go to avoid it.

I curse you Arnold Schwarzenegger and your crappy highways. I should send you my repair bill!

I drove I-5 some years ago. It was like a washboard. It was so rough I could only stand to go about 50 mph. Seems to me a State like CA could improve their road system. Just my opinion.

I'm a California native and in the three years we've had our coach we covered 32,000 miles and 34 states. Nowhere have we found roadways in such bad shape as California. Caltrans is the agency responsible for maintenance. All of their vehicles are orange in color. The old joke is: "what's orange and sleeps four?"... you guessed it, a Caltrans truck.

I believe that NY can top Ca. anytime. There's no need for a "Welcome To" roadsign. One can automatically judge when you've crossed the state line.

I need to amend my comment about California being the worst. Earlier this year we traveled about 300 miles on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. What a bumpy ride... and it culminated when they charged me a $48 toll to exit!!!

I have to concur. Last May I came across Arizona thru Flagstaff. Once I entered California the highway turned to crap, I caught two stones; one cracked and caused me to replace my windshield.

You find a way to get the illegals off our payroll and we'll find a way to fix the roads. Until they, when you come to CA ride a mule. The roads here just get run to death 24-7.

There is a difference between Cal-trans workers and the illegals.. The illegals will work for their money.

Avoid the Pennsylvania turnpike (I think I lost some tooth fillings) Avoid most roads in Lower Michigan, Northern Ohio and Eastern Indiana too. Our 700 Billion spent on roads sure isn't helping much.

The roads here in Nevada are pretty darn good... When I'm going to northern Calif. I drive up through Nevada and cross over in Reno. It's two lanes most of the way but no traffic and much smoother roads.
