The California Travel Industry Association (CalTIA) is backing proposed legislation that would force the state to ban the use of six chemicals that the association said have proven to be capable of damaging various types of septic systems while posing significant threats to groundwater supplies.

EXCELLENT!
You don't need any chemicals in an RV holding tank anyway.

Guess I won't be visiting CA should this go into effect. I've been using a product called Mean Green & I thought I was doing good because it doesn't have formaldehyde, alcohol or the other chemicals other tank treatments do. Maybe I need to take a closer look at the ingredients list on the bottle.

I don't use any either. I am surprised that they are choosing to ban rather than add a "chemical" tax however.

I'm boycotting california anyway since they took their stand against Arizona, but I digress.

How are they going to enforce this law? All they can do is prevent Cal companies from selling the products. RV's tend to move around and I doubt they can get a warrant to search for these products. Laws that can't be enforced are just a waste of time and money. No wonder Cal is broke.

Last year we stayed at a campground attached to the Jackson Rancheria in CA and were surprised when they emptied our tanks at check in (although they were already empty) and handed us some "green" tank treatment. They said they had a private sewer system they were trying to treat gently.....

Interestingly, they had a sewer dump attendant/valet at check-in to handle this. Must be a fun job to empty tanks all day.... I wondered at the time of there were tipping expectations??

Maybe they'll have holding tank sniffing dogs at check-in.
