Campground directory
We are new to RVing and will be retiring in May. Planning a trip from SD east to Maine and then south. What campground directory is easy to use and worth the money. AAA has directories for every state, but don't want to have all those books along. Suggestions anyone?

campgroundreviews.com is just about the only thing we use. No books to carry, but you do need an internet connection.

We do not use books or rvparkreviews or allstays. We just use the map app that comes already installed in our smartphones. It is Google Maps. When we get close to when we want to stop we just put in the search bar "RV park resort campground". That brings up just about every RV park around, including lots of ones that are not in the books, rvparkreviews or allstays. Most are of the mom & pop variety and have been cheaper and nicer than most "chains".

Campground Directory
We spend the summers traveling in the west and then some short trips in the northeast. We like Passport America. You will get your fee back in 2 or 3 nights. I also use RV Review to get an idea what the campgrounds are like then check the PPA Directory.

The wife HAD to have the GS directory.... I tried to talk her out of it, but NNOOOO
5 lbs of paper, 3 inches thick and print the size of a pinhead !
Got it in and she's not used it once....
smartphones, tablets, etc... have real time information that the books can't have...
like one recent trip when we had an impromptu stop - the local rv park was closed due to some flooding
and google maps has the phone numbers to call and make reservations on the way

We like RV park reviews. Just put in the zip code for where you want to go and the amenities you like and then choose your campground.

It gives reviews that are real life. Just need to ignore the picky ones.

X-2 on RV Park Reviews! We also use FMC atlas but rarely. We also post on RV Park Reviews and would encourage fellow forum members to also take the time to enlist and add to their data base. Just takes five minutes.

There is a directory called Trailer Life Directory sold at most RV dealerships and Camping World.

Used to get all the directories but now for the past four or five years we haven't gotten any.
I use Google maps and get the most recent information that way along with looking at the site on Google Earth to see how it's actually laid out.
We joined Good Sam and KOA and use them along with joining the Elks to use their RV facilities.

Thank you to all who responded to my question. GREAT INFO. No doubt about it, we won't be ordering any directories. Will use RV Reviews and google. Thanks again!!

I would recommend you find a directory, new or older, just for the general info found therein. You can likely find one for no $$?

For my pad and phone I use the android app for ALLSTAYS.
Cost was around $10.00 and is very, very good.

campsite info
We belong to Passport America and have found the info they give is very legit and they also get 50% off on the site listed in their venue. They are good as we have found and we were put onto the organization by a RV Park. The cost is small and we believe the benefits are great. Just check it out.
