We bought our Thousand Trails second hand too. Cost only $50 (plus an $800 transfer fee to TT) and it is a VIP type known as an Alliance membership that has perks like two week stays, 90 day advance reservations and immediate entry to another park (no "time out"). If you are considering a membership, the resale (second hand) market is the only way to go. Buying direct from the club is ridiculously expensive in nearly all cases.
The TT Zone memberships are a good way to try out some parks, though. No commitment - just pay for the year and as many regions (zones) as you like).
