I just got an Outdoor World membership from an uncle who doesn't camp anymore. I know it is mainly Eastcoast areas. 15 Campgrounds. I have not received any paperwork yet. How does it work? 2 weeks in 1 week out , 10.00 a day ?????
Is it a good membership or a pain in the you know where?

Found this web site - Outdoor World and it appears there have been some recent changes in ownership. I see it is affiliated with Thousand Trails, which should give you access to a lot of other campgrounds as well.

I am an Outdoor World member. There are dirrent memberships, but the basics are you have access to only Outdaaor World campgrounds. Although it was recently purchased by 1000 Trails, the 2 are still seperate. You can stay at one campground for 14 consecutive days, then gone for 1 week. You can go to another campground immediately with no wait. I would call member services though to verify as a lot has changed since the change in ownership. I am finding this out the hard way. they are trying to increase my annual membership fees and want to double the fees if I transfer it to someone else. So what may be an attractive deal for your uncle, may not be so attractive when it is transfer to you. You can go there website at Thousand Trails or call their member services number (228) 497-3594. They will need your uncles membership number to give you accurate information.

Last week we signed the transfer papers and I paid a little over $ 925.00 for the transfer and the 08 dues.

PDI, I forgot to wish you a warm welcome earlier to the site. What area are you from? What you paid seems a little higher than the transfer fee and dues that I was told to transfer mine. But my membership dates back to 1980 something I believe, so that may have something to do with it.

We live is south Jersey, so about 5 campgrounds are within 200 miles. I think the transfer fee was 425.00 and the dues 502.00 for the 08 year. Does the dues go up each year?

Frankie, not sure why they would not allow MA to particioate considering they have 2 Outdoor World Resorts in MA. Maybe another reason to add to my list of dislikes of the new managment.

PDI - The dues seem in line with what they want to charge the new owner if I were to transfer mine. I currently pay about $235, they did increase it like $5 this year and added a $10 optional electric surcharge. I am not sure what it is and have not asked yet.

The only thing I can think of is the State won't allow the high pressure sales pitch to its residents. I you seen anything about if you can use TT campgrounds with your Ourdoorworld membership.

No, your Outdoor World membership does not get you access to TT parks. If you want to use TT parks I believe they were offering different programs to both TT and OW members. You may want to give their sales folks a call to discuss.
