We booked Thanksgiving week as well as several shows in Branson last year. Night before we were to leave DW father had a heart attack. We scrapped Branson, made cancellation phone calls enroute to New Mexico to be with her father. Was a good call we were able to visit with him before he passed. Anyway we didn't bother trying to argue our way out of money lost for not following through with Branson...they have heard it all. Frankly it doesn't even matter what the reason is that your plans changed you are not dealing with a church here.

I do not agree with no refund policy when you cancel weeks in advance. I do however agree with the 48 hour rule. If you cancel weeks in advance, they have plenty of time to resell the site. If you cancel within two days, they have probably turned others away and will lose that revenue for that site.

Because of their steadfast policy, I will not receive 208.25 refund, nor will I be booking at this campground ever again. i will read the conditions of refunds anytime i book a stay.
If everyone who used a medical emergency as a reason for a refund the cancellation policy wouldn't mean much. And they shouldn't have to confirm a medical emergency with a doctor.

They allowed you to use the payment for a future date - that's nice of them. Take it!

My thoughts exactly! I'll bet that if there was a poll of campgrounds, "medical problem" would be #1 on cancellations.
We had a similar thing happen a couple of years ago, wife ended up needing minor surgery during our last trip of the season and we cancelled the day before our arrival. The campground asked for a slip from the Dr. We mailed it to them and they gladly allowed us to reschedule with $0 penalty, which we did setup for the following summer. Nothing lost and we had been there several times since.

I sympathise with you - I too have lost out on numerous missed hotel/ballgame/RV site reservations due to wife's health issues, but I view this as I took the risk and lost. The 48 hr rule is common and reasonable to protect from 'reservation abusers' that were common in the 70's. I think it was nice of them to offer the alternate dates.

I run a campground. Medical and death in the family is #1 reason. A person would hope that this is the truth. We offer them a year to reschedule if they want. 48 hr is our policy. Further out than that we will refund fully. The BS a person hears is amazing.

I get the policy, but what if they rent the space to someone else?

Count me as another who thinks the campground acted reasonably and within the written policy you agreed to. They even offered an accommodation (re-scheduling).

It's a bummer to suffer the financial loss in addition to the medical issue, but from the campground's perspective the reason for the cancellation is of no significance. And having worked in campgrounds for several years, I can also confirm that one hears all manner of excuses why an exception should be made for each person's "special" case. Some of the stories were quite entertaining!

I learned long ago that nobody operating a campground. (or a service shop), cares about your pain..... either physical or financial.

Could you have taken the extension and made another date then canceled that within 48 hours?

Get Well!

Used to be there were folks who would make a block of reservations just in case everyone showed up. Then would cancel the day before for those who probably were never going to make it as well as the ones who decided to do something else.

Then deposits were put in with full payment prior to the date.

Operating a business is operating a business.

Try returning software with a broken seal. Using the excuse the computer packed it in will not get you a refund.

You have asked the campground owner to save you space to use for your pleasure. They have a policy that requires 48 hours of notice. I would be happy they offered to reschedule your stay.

48 hour notice for a refund seems pretty fair to me. Sometimes may be hard for them to fill that space with shorter notice, even 48 hours. I think they were nice to offer a different time for you.

Any other attempts to over ride the system like a medical problem or a doctor's note, etc. is silly. Soon everyone will be sick and their neighbors will be a doctor writing the note. Life is not fair by any means, accept it.

I do not have a dog in this fight but am curious to know what Assurance Cancellation Protection is and where does one get it

From Endless Caverns Web Site:

Cancellation Policy
  • All holiday stays are non-refundable and non-transferable in the event of a cancellation.
  • All monthly reservation payments are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Refunds are prohibited for weather conditions, voluntary departure, acts of nature or evictions.
Campsites: Cancellation Policy
  • For cancellations 48 hours or more before check-in, deposit will be returned as a camping credit less a $50.00 processing fee.
  • For cancellations less than 48 hours before check-in, deposit will be forfeited.
Campsite Cancellation Policy with “Assurance Cancellation Protection”
  • For cancellations 48 hours or more before check-in, deposit will be refunded less a $25.00 processing fee.
  • For cancellations less than 48 hours before check-in, deposit will be forfeited.
Check-In and Check-Out
  • Hassle-free check-in with an escort to your site is available.
  • Check-in time is 2:00 p.m. for campsites. Check-out time is 11:00 a.m.
  • All campers, guests and visitors must register and pay at the office upon arrival.
  • To extend your stay, notify the office prior to 10:00 a.m.
  • Day guests must depart by 10:00 p.m., and overnight guests must depart by 11:00 a.m.
NOTE: All rates are subject to change without prior notice.

I think the Campground management acted reasonably. Too many times people book the campsites well into the future just to make sure they have a spot if they want it, and then take advantage by making up some excuse for not using the spot and want their money refunded. Then the campground is full for others who might want to go but can't make reservations, only to have empty spots they could have used.

Those in business don't have the time or ability to track down "doctors Notes" or other excuses, nor should they have to. That's one of the reasons they have policies. I don't think they are trying to rip anyone off seeing as they allowed a credit for a future stay. Just about every reservation web site you can book an RV spot or Hotel have the same disclaimer on it that the purchaser reads before putting any money down, so nobody really has a reason to be upset when a cancelation isn't refunded.
