We have seen (and used) a variety of storm shelters while traveling through tornado country. There have been concrete buildings and outbuildings to less sturdy admin. buildings. One CG in North Dakota sent campers to a nearby power station. Others say go to a hospital or other public place, but timeliness is a concern. Have any of you seen consistent evacuation information provided when you check in? I'm not sure I have, but considering how bad 2011 was, we all need to insist on knowing what to do if a storm bad comes.
I just saw on TV where a southern trailer park buried an old school bus and installed an access hatch with ladder through the roof. Not elegant but it provides seating for 40 to wait out a bad storm.
Maybe we can campaign our federales to require campgrounds to bury Prevost or Newell motorhomes that are fully stocked with beverages and snacks for RVers to wait out in a non-threatening environment. (OK, maybe not.) Be safe out there.

Don't get the government involved, please. "Build it and they will come."

Saw that news item also, and thought, "What a brilliant and economical idea!"
All mobile home parks and campgrounds should have a similar facility..

We always ask when we check in when traversing "the alley" anytime close to the season. Like I tell them we are from Washington State. We know about earthquakes and volcanoes but "don't know nothing 'bout no tornadoes Miss Scarlet".

That sounds like a mold and mildew problem not waiting to happen. I wonder if it leaks in the rain.

The problem with sending campers to a hospital or goverment during a storm is that you don't know when or where the tornado will hit. You could end up doing more harm than good.
