It's in the pool water not their water source. It was noted that they have three water features. That happens in high heat with a lot of people in pools.

We have our own pool and refuse to swim in public pools because you do not know what is in the water.

Most every pool where I have worked has a sign stating "Must shower before entering the Pool" or similar wording. No one does. But I think that people do not know what "taking a shower" means here. No mater how much toilet paper a person uses there is something left behind. A proper shower cleans this away so that it doesnt contaminate the water feature. Virtually every water feature is contaminated to some degree.

…. what a waste to have one of those quickie showers at the entrance of the pool. Folks stand under them a few seconds.... with their suits on.... and get their back wet & think that's showering. They need to invent a car wash-type shower before entering the pool.... a separate private space where you get naked and with scrub brushes and it won't let you in the pool until you go through into another room where your clothes have been placed!

Another article I read stated that the swimming pond and nearby river were the likely source of the problem, and that it spread through infected people to the pool.
I used to work at an apartment complex years ago and we often had a difficult time adjusting chlorine when pool use was hot and heavy. On a steamy hot summer day with dozens of grade schoolers in the pool it was almost impossible to keep the chlorine levels adequate. Several times I would have to close the pool for a while and shock it, much to the displeasure of my boss who didn't have the faintest clue about pool safety. All she was concerned about was having to listen to complaints.
Later, after years of bitching about the problem we finally got an automatic chlorinator system which all but eliminated the issue.
I swore I would never swim in a public pool, but now I swim laps three or four days a week at our local fitness center. It has two pools, one for adults and one for the kiddos. I stay far away from the kiddie pool. I even asked when I joined if the two pools filtration systems were interconnected and was assured they were separate. I know the kiddie pool has been closed a few times due to a few random "Caddy Shack Baby Ruth" moments.
I hate to see a campground's reputation ruined because of this, hopefully the owner will learn to be more proactive. More aggressive shower enforcement would be a start, but if someone already has the disease, showering isn't going to do much. Maybe he should budget for an automatic chlorinator if he doesn't have one.

You can't make people shower, especially kiddies. My solution was to maintain around 8-10ppm chlorine during those heavy-usage days. I ran the hot tub a bit higher; it would dissove frogs in 24 hours.
The health department guy told me "you gotta do what you gotta do."
High chlorine levels won't hurt anyone but may fade swimsuits and remove fine body hair.
I'm glad I'm not a pool boy any more.

Thanks for reminding about public pools. We had a house pool for 22 years. Rule one: no peeing in the pool.
We kept the chlorine above 5ppm due to 90d water. Pool maint is lots of work even when you cant use it.
Just occasional parties. Never had anyone sick. I won't go in public pools now.

As a pool owner, one thing you don’t want guess to do is come from swimming in a lake then get in your pool without washing or changing their bathing suit.
